The Phoenix area is known for its desert conditions and it barren landscape but that overgeneralization is not true in all spots. If you know the Valley, you know that there are areas with farming, lush green fields, and even spots of open water if you know where to look. With these alternative conditions may come some less-than-typical vehicles in the area and potentially on the roads.

The laws in Arizona govern which types of vehicles can travel on local roads and how these vehicles may use surface roads when they do drive. On Thursday night, a collision happened between a farm tractor and a car in the area of 73rd Drive and Broadway Road. The crash, near Tolleson, happened for unknown reasons and officials are still investigating the facts surrounding the incident.

Local police and emergency crews were on the scene and they tended to three victims in critical condition. Reportedly, a man in his 30s was driving the tractor prior to the impact and was trapped underneath it following the collision. A 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were also on the tractor and were harmed in the car accident; it is not clear whether anyone inside the car was hurt or sustained injuries.

All three people on the tractor were listed in critical condition and were transported to area hospitals for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

There is no such thing as a typical car accident in Phoenix because the facts that lead to any crash vary from those that lead to another. Police in Phoenix believe that a fatal car accident on Sunday began when a driver ran a red light near the intersection of 15th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The incident happened shortly after 12:00 p.m. and allegedly involved a Toyota entering the intersection against a red light which led to a collision with a Chevrolet nearby. Emergency crews responded to the accident and assessed both driver upon arrival. Unfortunately, the driver of the Toyota, an 84-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 36-year-old male, survived the accident but was injured and was transported to an area hospital for additional treatment. That man’s current condition is not known.

Police are still looking into this collision and trying to confirm what caused the collision and whether any outside factors played a role. One potential consideration in this matter is whether slow speed may have contributed to the crash, but at this time, there have been no conclusions released to the public.

Police in Glendale confirmed a collision on Saturday afternoon that involved multiple vehicles and left at least two people hurt. The incident happened near 49th Avenue and Northern Avenue and allegedly began when one driver swerved to avoid rear-ending a second car. The swerving driver turned his vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic, causing a head-on crash with a third car traveling in the area and doing substantial damage. Police and emergency crews responded to the scene of the accident and determined that the driver of the swerving vehicle was injured and needed to be taken to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition remains unknown.

The second vehicle was not involved in the accident but the third vehicle was and a front seat passenger in that car suffered at least one broken bone. She is currently receiving treatment from the crash. The driver of the third car allegedly fled the scene on foot and police believe it was because there is an arrest warrant out for that motorist, leading her to flee. They are searching for her at this time to determine whether she was injured in the collision and to investigate the matter further.

Now, officials have stated that they believe the swerving driver may have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs prior to the impact and they are investigating to that end. When that driver is released from the hospital, he is expected to be officially charged in the crash but the precise nature of the charges have not yet been disclosed.

Phoenix police have confirmed that a head-on collision occurred this morning around 8:30 a.m. at Bell Road and 19th Street. At this time, authorities believe that a car traveling westbound in the area crossed the center line for reasons that are not yet clear. In doing so, the car caused a collision with four vehicles traveling eastbound and at least one of those vehicles was hit in a head-on manner.

Four people were hurt in the accident and two of them had to be removed from their vehicles. Three people were taken to area hospitals in extremely critical condition while the fourth was in better shape and was expected to survive.

At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether the suspected at-fault driver was hurt in the incident or whether that motorist is facing any charges in relation to his or her actions.

Reports indicate that the driver of the truck refused to stop and instead left the scene at a high speed on southbound I-17 for some distance before exiting and traveling on Camelback Road. At one point, the driver reportedly was traveling at 110 miles per hour and returned to I-17 before exiting the highway a second time, running a red light, and colliding head-on with a second vehicle in the area.

The driver of the pickup truck was serious injured and was taken to an area hospital for additional treatment where the driver’s condition is not known. Additionally, the driver of the second vehicle was also hurt but is expected to survive and received assistance both at the scene and at a hospital. The police officer in pursuit of the pickup truck was not involved in the crash and was not harmed.

Officials are still trying to determine why the driver of the pickup truck fled from the attempted traffic stop and whether any outside factors, like impairment, may have played a role.

If you were traveling in the greater Phoenix area, you may have noticed an increase in the amount of traffic on the roads. With both the NFL Super Bowl and the PGA Phoenix Open taking place in the Valley, there were an unusual number of vehicles on the expressways, local roads, and even private drives that snake through Phoenix, Glendale, and Scottsdale in particular. At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, police in Phoenix were alerted to the scene of a car accident involving three separate vehicles and leaving at least one victim injured. When police arrived near Greenway Road and 40th Street, they were able to determine that an initial impact occurred between a vehicle heading westbound and waiting to turn left and a car traveling eastbound. It is not clear which vehicle caused the collision or whether either driver will face charges for this crash but police have stated that they are still investigating at this time.

The first impact caused at least one of the vehicles to collide with a third and then one car left the road’s surface and drove into a retention ditch nearby. A woman, whose name and age have not been released, was seriously hurt in the crash and was evaluated by medical personnel on the scene before being taken to an area hospital for additional treatment.
