Impairment Possible in Glendale Car Accident

Police in Glendale confirmed a collision on Saturday afternoon that involved multiple vehicles and left at least two people hurt. The incident happened near 49th Avenue and Northern Avenue and allegedly began when one driver swerved to avoid rear-ending a second car. The swerving driver turned his vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic, causing a head-on crash with a third car traveling in the area and doing substantial damage. Police and emergency crews responded to the scene of the accident and determined that the driver of the swerving vehicle was injured and needed to be taken to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition remains unknown.

The second vehicle was not involved in the accident but the third vehicle was and a front seat passenger in that car suffered at least one broken bone. She is currently receiving treatment from the crash. The driver of the third car allegedly fled the scene on foot and police believe it was because there is an arrest warrant out for that motorist, leading her to flee. They are searching for her at this time to determine whether she was injured in the collision and to investigate the matter further.

Now, officials have stated that they believe the swerving driver may have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs prior to the impact and they are investigating to that end. When that driver is released from the hospital, he is expected to be officially charged in the crash but the precise nature of the charges have not yet been disclosed.
