Construction Beginning in Valley, Delays Anticipated

Each year, significant construction projects begin along the roads of the Valley of the Sun, leaving residents of Phoenix and other towns with longer commutes, confusing detours, and other issues as they drive. This year is no exception as numerous projects are beginning admit the current record-setting heat.

Starting Monday, a massive project will affect many of those who drive to downtown Scottsdale and many others who use the Loop 101 to get around, especially those who drive on weekdays. The ongoing project involves widening the Loop 101 between the Loop 202 and Shea Boulevard and it began in 2014; now, though, the project is focusing on an area leading to Scottsdale and will close all entrance and exit ramps at the Indian School Road interchange.

Most motorists in the Phoenix area are aware of the ongoing widening of the Loop 101 and have experienced some inconvenience over the last year as the active portion of the project moved from one location to another. This next phase, set to affect Indian School Road and the traffic that would use that exit, is anticipated to last only 60 days before the on- and off-ramps will reopen and the construction project will advance to another locale.

In the meantime, traffic in that area will be rerouted and detours will be available. These detours will provide all drivers with a safe means of travel to the downtown Scottsdale area and to other locations near the Indian School Road exit. However, safe travel will only be possible if all drivers comply with the posted detours and act with care and caution.

Often, construction zones that require detours lead to drivers becoming confused about where they should travel and where they should turn. This confusion can lead to motorists making snap judgments that are against the public interest and can lead a driver to act rashly behind the wheel. These activities can threaten the safety of others and can make it much more likely that a car accident will result, potentially causing injuries or even death to those who are involved.

Far too often, it is the innocent victims of these crashes who suffer from physical harm and sustain injuries that require medical care. Whether those victims are in the same car as an at-fault driver or another vehicle, though, their rights as protected by Arizona law remain the same: victims can seek compensation for their injuries against an at-fault motorist and/or an insurance company. These actions, which are different from any traffic tickets or criminal charges that a driver may face, can enable victims to obtain payment to cover all the damages that result from the crash. Typically, claims seek monetary relief for losses like medical expenses, pain and suffering, and wages missed due to an inability to work.
